Niko Kovac was at a press conference on Wednesday ahead of ASSE’s clash with AS Monaco in Ligue 1 on Friday (9pm) and made a clarification regarding the Alexander Nübel rumour. The latter is a young goalkeeper of Bayern Munich announced on the Rock.
AS Monaco: Kovac does not confirm Alexander Nübel
After recruiting Krépin Diatta this winter, AS Monaco are reportedly on the trail of Alexander Nübel. According to Kicker magazine, the Bayern Munich Goalkeeper is on the radar of Niko Kovac, himself a former coach of the Bavarian club. However, the Croatian coach did not train the Goalkeeper. He had left Munich in November 2019, while the 24-year-old arrived in Bavaria from Schalke in late June 2020. Reacting to the Alexander Nübel rumour at AS Monaco, the Monaco coach did not wish to comment. Instead, he kicked the bucket. “Rumours are always there, that’s our job, rumours everywhere, I don’t want to comment,” he replied.
ASM coach cautious on the market
To better dodge the question about the German keeper, Robert Moreno‘s successor spoke about the upcoming mercato in a more general way. “We’re looking at it, that’s our daily work. The job of Paul Mitchell (ASM‘s sporting director) and the cell to see what we need next season. Strange moment, there is less money, nobody knows what will happen. We have to find the balance, like with Axel Disasi or Krépin Diatta, and concentrate on young talents that are not too expensive. We must not rush into anything, but make the right choice. We have to analyse and control the situation for the mercato this summer”, he said. The central defender and the right winger were recruited from Stade of Reims and FC Bruges respectively, for €13m and €16m, and have signed until June 2025.
