A few months after the lost final of the 2019-2020 Champions League, PSG meets Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the same competition. A few hours before this match, the press is already speculating about the starting teams of Mauricio Pochettino, the Parisian coach, and his Bavarian counterpart Hans-Dieter Flick.
A PSG reduced like Bayern Munich
Mauricio Pochettino and his men are expected this Wednesday evening on the lawn of the Allianz Arena to face Bayern Munich in the quarterfinal first leg of the Champions League. Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and the Parisians will be keen to take revenge for the final lost last season (1-0) against the German team. But for this European clash, the coach of Paris Saint-Germain will have to do without Marco Verratti and Alessandro Florenzi. Both Italians are positive for Covid-19.
Juan Bernat, Layvin Kurzawa and Mauro Icardi (injuries) are also missing, as well as Leandro Paredes (suspended). Thomas Tuchel‘s successor could therefore choose a three-man midfield with Idrissa Gueye, Danilo Pereira and Ander Herrera. Up front, Moise Kean will be preferred to Angel Di Maria to accompany Neymar and Mbappe. As for Bayern Munich, Hans-Dieter Flick also has some important absentees.
Serge Gnabry, who was expected to replace Robert Lewandowski, injured with the Polish national team during the international break and the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday morning. The German international striker is therefore out for this first leg. The former Arsenal FC winger could even miss the return match on April 13 at Parc the Princes.
In the absence of these two players, it is the former Paris SG center forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting who will hold the attack of the Bundesliga Champion. Douglas Costa and Corentin Tolisso will also not be on the field tonight.
The probable compositions of the two teams
Bayern‘s probable line-up: Neuer – Pavard, Sule, Alaba, Hernandez – Goretzka, Kimmich – Sane, Muller, Coman – Choupo-Moting.
The composition of PSG: Navas – Diallo, Kimpembe, Marquinhos, Kehrer – Gueye, Danilo – Neymar, Di Maria, Kean – Mbappe.
