FOOTBALL – Morocco: Vahid Halilhodzic, first coach to qualify 4 different countries for the World Cup

By qualifying Morocco for Qatar 2022, Vahid Halilhodzic entered a little more in the history of soccer. The Atlas Lions coach became the first coach to qualify four different teams for a World Cup.

Vahid Halilhodzic defeated DR Congo (4-1) and gave Morocco its sixth qualification for the World Cup. At 69 years old, he has just qualified his 4th selection to the great mass. He has already qualified Algeria to the 2014 World Cup, where he reached the round of 16 before losing to Germany, at the time. This is in fact the only World Cup in which he took part.

Sacked from the Ivory Coast and Japan before the World Cup

Indeed, he qualified the Ivory Coast for the 2010 World Cup and Japan for the 2018 World Cup, but was each time dismissed before the start of the competition. It remains to be seen if he will hold his place this time until next November.

Note that Carlos Alberto Parreira and Bora Milutinović did coach five different teams during the final stages of a World Cup, but without taking part in the qualifications.
