FOOTBALL – OM: Pape Gueye suspended by FIFA

After Watford contested the transfer of Pape Gueye to OM, the Senegalese midfielder is suspended by FIFA announced Aliou Cisse, his coach.

Remember, the signing of Pape Gueye at Olympique the Marseille in the summer of 2020 was not to the liking of Watford. The English club claimed, at the time, that the Senegalese midfielder had first signed at home. At the end of his contract with Le Havre, the 22-year-old player had initially signed with the club relegated to the Championship at the end of the 2019-2020 season. Gueye had finally broken his contract unilaterally for defects of form before joining OM, free.

Only, Watford had decided to refer to FIFA and the penalty has just fallen. Absent from the game sheet of Senegal-Guinea (0-0) for the 2nd day of the African Cup of Nations, Pape Gueye is suspended by the world body. “Pape Gueye had an administrative problem just before the start of the game. Five minutes before, we were warned that FIFA has suspended him for a transfer case between his club Marseille and Watford” explained Aliou Cisse in a press conference.

“His lawyer informed us this morning around 11am, but just before kickoff, we got the confirmation. That’s why we removed him from the game sheet” added the Senegalese coach. It remains to know the duration of this suspension from FIFA, which has not yet communicated on the subject.
