OM Mercato : Olympique de Marseille on the track of Marcus Thuram
The management of the Marseille football club is starting to delve back into transfer market deals. Marcus Thuram is on the list of potential signings being explored for the end of the season.
OM Mercato: Olympique de Marseille is considering Marcus Thuram
The end of the season for OM is not going as the management had hoped. After the brilliant victory against PSG in the French Cup, the Marseille club was looking forward to winning the trophy and securing second place in Ligue 1 behind Paris Saint-Germain. However, a heavy blow came from an unexpected opponent, FC Annecy.
Since then, the management of OM has realized that a lack of depth on the bench of substitutes is hindering Igor Tudor‘s plans. Several player recruitment files have been circulating on the desks of the Phocaean leaders, including that of Marcus Thuram.
The French international, valued at €32 million, will be a free agent from Borussia Mönchengladbach on June 30th. With 22 championship matches played in the Bundesliga this season, the French striker has scored 11 goals. Despite his importance to the German club, no agreement has been reached for the extension of his contract.
Olympique de Marseille seems to want to take advantage of the opportunity to sign him for free at the end of the season. Marseille club supervisors have reportedly started monitoring his performances in order to solidify the club’s decision to sign him or not at the end of the season.
Other clubs interested in Marcus Thuram
Olympique de Marseille (OM) will have to prepare to face stiff competition in their pursuit of Marcus Thuram. The French international forward is of interest to several clubs in England and Spain. Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that he is on the radar of FC Barcelona and three Premier League clubs. With Marseille entering the fray, the list of potential suitors for Thuram continues to grow.
With an estimated annual salary of 4 million euros, Thuram will want to take advantage of his club switch to earn more. However, he is not willing to compromise on certain conditions. His next club must be competing at the top of their league and even qualify for the Champions League next season.
Currently in 10th place in the German league standings, Borussia Mönchengladbach seem to have little chance of playing in the biggest European club competition next season. The club’s current position in the league makes it almost certain that the striker will leave at the end of the season.
