PSG and Barça unite, this consultant is fired!
While FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have cultivated a new rivalry in recent seasons, the two clubs can still come together to boycott a Spanish channel that sparked controversy with an offensive comment directed towards Lamine Yamal.
At just 16 years old, Lamine Yamal has established himself as a starter at FC Barcelona. Despite his very young age, his abilities make him one of the most promising players in the world. Naturally, Barcelona wants to protect their gem, especially against detractors. A few days ago, German Burgos made some rather terrible remarks about Lamine Yamal on the Movistar channel, where he works as a commentator: “If things don’t go well for him in football, he can always end up at the traffic lights.” These comments by the former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper insinuate that if it weren’t for football, Lamine Yamal, who comes from a modest family, would have resorted to begging to earn a living. PSG and the Catalan club have thus decided to boycott Movistar and not grant a single interview to the Spanish channel.
The Argentine commentator later apologized live on Movistar, after Barcelona‘s victory at the Parc des Princes. “If anyone felt offended, I apologize publicly. In these difficult times, we must adapt to everything, and that’s what we’re doing,” said the Argentine goalkeeper, who then reiterated his remarks in a statement posted on his Instagram account. “I did not intend to hurt Lamine Yamal in any way, nor Barcelona, nor the players, nor UEFA, nor Movistar Plus where I work. I made a joke about his qualities and praised his virtues; in no way did I mention any ethnicity or social class,” added the 55-year-old former player. PSG, regardless, decided to support Lamine Yamal in this controversy, despite the rivalry with Barcelona, by not answering any questions from the Spanish broadcaster. The latter also decided to take a radical decision by simply dismissing German Burgos from all his positions within the channel.
