Barça Mercato: Benjamin Pavard’s arrival slowed down by a recruit

In search of a right-back since the departure of Hector Bellerin, Joan Laporta‘s Barça has found his happiness in MLS.

Which right-back for Barça? While the Catalan club has experienced a complicated winter mercato, marked only by departures, a defender from Bayern Munich is very attractive. It is Benjamin Pavard, the former Lille. His profile as a right-back is ideal to replace Hector Bellerin who left for Sporting Portugal this winter.

Under contract until June 2024, he could quickly receive an offer from Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona. According to Sport, his price has been set at around 30 million euros by the 60-year-old manager. But his transfer could take some time. Indeed, the Blaugrana have managed to complete the arrival of Julian Araujo. As a reminder, the defender from Los Angeles Galaxy was supposed to join FCB in the winter mercato, but the papers of his loan were sent 18 seconds late. Finally, the transfer should be granted by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) according to Team.

Benjamin Pavard at Barça, it is still possible

The file Benjamin Pavard remains on track at Barcelona. According to information from Mundo Deportivo, his agent Pini Zahavi has entered into discussions with the Catalan club to discuss the future of the Bavarian fullback. The media is confident about his future arrival, which could be done this summer if negotiations are successful.

If, however, the case were to fall through this summer, the current leader of La Liga could study another option: to recruit him for free in 2024, the year of the end of his contract. It remains to be seen if Joan Laporta is willing to wait to buy Benjamin Pavard, or if another right-back will be considered. The second possibility seems the most likely, because Barça had already tracked several players this winter in the position (Pedro Porro, Juan Foyth, Arnau Martinez). It will also depend on the performance of Julian Araujo.
