OM : Igor Tudor assumes his choices with Mattéo Guendouzi
At OM, relations between Mattéo Guendouzi and Igor Tudor have deteriorated in recent days. But the Marseille coach stands by his choices.
OM: Tension has risen greatly between Mattéo Guendouzi and Igor Tudor.
Mattéo Guendouzi‘s season at OM is far from a smooth ride. After an interesting first half of the season in Marseille, the midfielder’s performance has dropped. Repositioned in support of Alexis Sanchez, the French international still cannot satisfy the demands of Igor Tudor and has gradually lost the confidence of his coach.
Proof of this is that the player has not played a single minute in the last two matches of Olympique de Marseille. Igor Tudor preferred to field Vitinha, pushing back his Chilean striker against Troyes (3-1). And in the victory of OM over Lyon (1-2), the Croatian coach preferred to start Ruslan Malinovskyi in his position. This sidelining is seriously starting to annoy the former Arsenal player.
Since arriving at OM in the summer of 2021, Mattéo Guendouzi had never experienced such a demotion. And he expressed his dissatisfaction internally after the victory over OL. Tensions do exist between the player and his coach. Indeed, Igor Tudor did not escape this question.
Igor Tudor talked to his midfielder.
Present at a press conference before the reception of Auxerre, the OM coach was indeed questioned about his tense relations with Mattéo Guendouzi. The Croatian explained that he understood his midfielder’s frustration. However, the thread is not yet broken between the two men. Moreover, Igor Tudor spoke with his player to clear things up.
“I talked a lot with him. I was a player myself, so I understand the situation. For them, it is sometimes difficult to see that others are training better, that some players play more often. For some, it is easier to accept than for others. The coach must make choices,” he said in comments reported by RMC Sport.
It is clear that the relations between the player and the OM coach have become strained in recent weeks. But a rupture is not yet on the cards. Internal tensions must be resolved quickly to bring some serenity back to Marseille at the end of the season.
