OM Mercato : Eric Bailly towards the exit, Pablo Longoria has decided
Desiring to lighten its squad during the next transfer window, the president of OM has apparently made his decision regarding Eric Bailly‘s future.
Third in Ligue 1 with the same points as RC Lens, Olympique de Marseille still has nine championship games left to achieve its ultimate goal. The Marseille club will have to quickly start a series of victories in order to qualify for the next Champions League. Several players will have the opportunity to score points with Igor Tudor during this final sprint.
On the other hand, the fate of some OM players seems already sealed. This is particularly the case for Eric Bailly. Arriving last summer transfer window from Manchester United, the Ivorian international has failed to establish himself in the OM defense. Since the start of the season, he has only played in 11 Ligue 1 matches with 4 starts, which is quite disappointing for a player of his caliber.
OM Mercato : Marseille will not keep Eric Bailly
It should be said that his recurring injuries and his long suspension of seven matches have not played in his favor. Starting in the Classico lost against PSG (0-3), Eric Bailly also delivered a poor performance that earned him strong criticism. Since that match, the center-back has been dropped from Igor Tudor‘s starting eleven and his situation is unlikely to improve at the end of the season.
La Provence reports that OM does not intend to exercise its purchase option of €7 million set by Manchester United. To automatically activate this clause, the former Villarreal player must play in 50% of OM‘s matches. This will be difficult to achieve since Igor Tudor does not plan to play him in upcoming matches.
Relegated to sixth place in OM‘s hierarchy of defenders, Eric Bailly should logically remain on the Marseille bench before returning to the Red Devils at the end of the season. He will likely task his agents with finding him a new club.
