FC Nantes : FCN sanctioned before the French Cup against Lyon

A heavy sanction has been handed down against FC Nantes, six days before the Coupe de France semi-final against OL at the Stade de la Beaujoire.

Holder of the Coupe de France, FC Nantes is well on its way to winning a second national trophy in a row. The Canaries are in the semi-finals and will face Olympique Lyonnais on April 5th on their home turf. But before this crucial match for FCN, some bad news has fallen on the City of Dukes.

The club has been sanctioned by UEFA following the behavior of its supporters against Juventus during the return leg of the playoffs. A match lost by the Yellow and Greens (0-3) at the Beaujoire, in front of thousands of their fans.

According to information from Team, UEFA has imposed a fine of €66,000 on FC Nantes due to the behavior of its supporters against the “Old Lady”. The club of Waldemar Kita is also sanctioned with a partial closed-door of the Beaujoire due to the use of pyrotechnic devices, throwing of objects, and invasion of the pitch by Canaries supporters.

FC Nantes : FCN can play Europe again by winning the French Cup

The Nantes players will obviously serve this sentence in European competition. For this, FC Nantes must finish in the top 5 of Ligue 1 in order to qualify for a European competition. But ranked 14th in the championship, with 30 points behind Stade Rennais (5th), Antoine Kombouaré‘s team can no longer claim a qualification for Europe through Ligue 1.

However, they can secure a direct ticket to the group stage of the Europa League by winning the Coupe de France, just as they did last season. This is obviously the objective of the club from the Loire Atlantique region in this end of season.
