Mercato OL: Official confirmation from AS Roma of the arrival of Houssem Aouar

As announced by several media outlets, Houssem Aouar has indeed signed with AS Roma. The Giallorossi have confirmed the news through a statement.

It comes as no surprise. As reported by Team and other media outlets in recent weeks, Houssem Aouar has signed with AS Roma. The club made his arrival official through a statement. “I am very happy to have signed for Roma, it’s a great club with a great history,” said the 24-year-old midfielder. He has signed a 5-year contract with the Giallorossi, until June 2028. After a failed departure last summer, the French international (1 cap) has finally achieved what he wanted. On the other hand, things are not looking good for Lyon.

This transfer is clearly not beneficial for the club led by John Textor. Being out of contract, Houssem Aouar has joined Italy as a free agent. Only his salary, estimated at €300,000 per month, will go into the club’s finances. According to the website Transfermarkt, he could have brought in at least €15 million more.

Ellyes Skhiri to replace Houssem Aouar at OL?

Now, Olympique Lyonnais will have to find a successor for Houssem Aouar. The Rhône club seems to have anticipated his transfer as Ellyes Skhiri is reportedly close to joining. According to journalist Rudy Galetti, discussions are progressing well for a 3-year contract with Les Gones. Already targeted last winter, the 28-year-old attacking midfielder is familiar with Ligue 1 having previously played for Montpellier (2014-2019).

Being part of the FC Cologne squad for the past 4 seasons, Skhiri has never been opposed to a move to Lyon. “It’s very flattering because it’s a club that I really like. But the timing of the offer wasn’t right, it came very late in January. It wasn’t the best moment for me, as I had already resumed playing with the team, and it was delicate to leave because I was involved with that team. I preferred to refuse,” he said toTeam after receiving an initial offer from OL last winter. Since then, things seem to have changed significantly, and the Lyon leaders can believe in his arrival in the coming days.
