FOOTBALL – PSG Mercato : Idrissa Gueye tells a surprising truth about his departure
With one year left on his contract, Idrissa Gueye left PSG to return to Everton last summer. The Senegalese midfielder returned on this decision.
While his commitment to Paris Saint-Germain ran until June 2023, Idrissa Gueye really had no intention of changing air during the last summer mercato. The 33-year-old midfielder feels comfortable in Paris. In an interview with Tribal Football, Gueye revealed the reasons for his departure from the Parisian club. “There were other opportunities, but I told my agent to refuse them all. I had a great time at PSG,” said the Dakar native. However, the former player of Lille OSC admits that he did not resist the call of the Toffees.

After shining at Everton between 2016 and 2019, Idrissa Gana Gueye then joined Paris Saint-Germain against a check of 30 million euros. Pushed towards the exit by Luis Campos and Christophe Galtier, the 2021 African Champion finally agreed to join the ranks of the English club, a choice dictated by his heart.
“It was not in my plans to return, but as soon as Everton called me and said they needed me and wanted me to help them…. I couldn’t say no,” explained the former teammate of Kylian Mbappe before declaring his love for the Goodison Park resident. “This is my home, that’s how I feel. I can’t say no to Everton, whether they are up or down. I’m very, very happy to have another opportunity to give everything for this club. I spent three years here and once you’re blue, you’re in forever. How can I explain it? It’s in my heart. This club is part of me,”
added the compatriot of Sadio Mane.
Back at Everton, Gueye has signed a two-year lease until June 2024, with an additional year as an option.
