Cristiano Ronaldo “sold” his Golden Ball 2013
2008, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017: these are the years in which Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded the Golden Ball during his career.
And if this prestigious trophy is the ultimate grail for individual performance, the one won by the Portuguese in 2013 hides a beautiful story. Indeed, the current player of Al-Nassr (Saudi Arabia) had decided to donate his Golden Ball to a charity, in charge of supporting children with serious diseases.
A trophy that had been sold € 645,000 at auction by the Make A Wish Foundation, to Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer. However, the English newspaper The Mirror reports that it is a perfect replica and that the original trophy is still on display in the Portuguese star’s museum in Madeira. Fun fact: Idan Ofer, buyer of the trophy, had acquired 32% of the shares of Atletico Madrid in 2017, eternal rival of Real Madrid where CR7 had his best hours.
