Racists at Real Madrid? Yamal isn’t surprised.
During FC Barcelona’s dominant performance at the Santiago Bernabéu (0-4) on October 26, Lamine Yamal and his teammate Alejandro Balde were subjected to racism. For the Blaugrana winger, this was no surprise, as he believes he understands the real motivations behind these Real Madrid supporters.
This is one of the battles currently being fought by La Liga. This season, players like Vinicius Junior continue to complain about racism in Spanish stadiums. The Real Madrid winger is regularly targeted during away matches, while his own fans exhibit similar behavior towards other players. Last October, FC Barcelona delivered a lesson to the Merengue at the Santiago Bernabéu, where some spectators made racist remarks towards Lamine Yamal and his teammate Alejandro Balde. Months later, the Barça winger prefers to downplay the incident.
“When you’re leading 0-3 or 0-4, they can say whatever they want, but in the end, they can’t do anything,“ reacted the Spanish international in an interview with Mundo Deportivo. “They watch you play, they watch you beating them on their own pitch. They see they can’t get near the ball, and that’s the only thing they have left. So, as Balde said, whether they call me Black or whatever… I am, and it doesn’t bother me. We’re proud. And in the end, when they win, they don’t say anything. It’s only when they lose. That’s all.“
Yamal expects sanctions
“It’s wrong, of course, and it shouldn’t be defended,“ clarified the Blaugrana player. “There’s no place for this in football. They should be kicked out of the stadium. But well, the Federation is already aware, everyone has seen it, and they need to take the necessary measures.“ If Lamine Yamal needed any more reasons, these insults represent an additional motivation to rule out the possibility of a future at Real Madrid. “Impossible. Real Madrid? No,“ affirmed the 17-year-old talent.
