FOOTBALL – OM Mercato : The big clarification of Longoria on William Saliba

OM Mercato: President of Marseille, Pablo Longoria spoke about the situation of William Saliba, on loan from Arsenal last season.

OM Mercato : Towards an offensive of Marseille for Saliba ?

The Olympique Marseille recorded a huge blow on Friday only a few days after resuming training. Not having any guarantees for the coming season, Jorge Sampaoli decided to leave. The Argentine technician still had one year left on his contract with the Phocaean club. At a time when Sampaoli‘s successor is expected, Pablo Longoria expressed himself on another subject concerning the mercato of OM. The Marseille president spoke about the possible return of William Saliba to Provence. Foot Mercato revealed that the club was willing to make a financial effort for the transfer of the central defender. He was on loan without option last season at the club.

Longoria’s revelations about Saliba

The president of Olympique Marseille indicates that another club is interested in the profile of William Saliba. Pablo Longoria is aware that Arsenal is also interested in his central defender. The former Stephanois has just chained three successive loans in Ligue 1. Recruited in 2019 and still under contract until 2024, the 21-year-old defender has never played a game with the Gunners’ first team. Nothing indicates that the Gunners will offer him the same sporting guarantees as Marseille. An offensive by OM is therefore not excluded.

“He has shown his willingness to stay in Marseille, I thank him. There is a club like us that would be very happy to have Saliba but there is another party that is Arsenal, with its own strategy. […] You always have to do a mercato in an intelligent way,” explained the Spanish manager quoted by La Provence. As a reminder, Transfermarkt estimates the market value of the French defender at 30 million euros.
