2026 World Cup: FIFA introduces an “anti-Arsenal” law

Arsenal experienced a lot of emotions this season, with a Premier League title and a Champions League final lost to PSG. The style produced by the Gunners will continue to be talked about…
Arsenal would have liked to achieve a historic double, but will have to settle for their Premier League title. Mikel Arteta‘s men came close to lifting the first Champions League in their history. But PSG were more solid in the penalty shootout. Although Arsenal had a well-established game plan to beat the French capital club, the London team once again disappointed with their style of play. Very restrictive and relying above all on set-piece opportunities, the Gunners‘ style was not enough in Europe at the most decisive moment.
Arsenal, a bad example to follow?
Moreover, to combat certain practices used by Arsenal players on set pieces, FIFA has already taken measures.
In recent hours, AS reports that FIFA will implement an “anti-Arsenal” law. This means that from the World Cup onwards, a goal can be disallowed by VAR in the event of a foul by the attacker… even before the ball is played (for example on a corner).
In total, VAR could now be used in seven cases: goal, penalty, red card, second yellow card leading to an expulsion, identity of a player, corner awarded to the wrong team, and foul by an attacker.
This is something that could change the situation for some who have developed bad habits. It remains to be seen whether these rules will ever be applied in the Premier League, as they could significantly change things for a club like Arsenal.
