Hugo Ekitike on the rise, Frankfurt was not ripped off
At the very end of the winter transfer window, Hugo Ekitike finally left Paris Saint-Germain to join Eintracht Frankfurt. However, his physical condition does not currently allow him to compete for a starting position.
Shelved by Luis Enrique and the Parisian management, Hugo Ekitike will finally be able to play football again, having only played 8 minutes since the beginning of the season, in a match against FC Lorient in Ligue 1. The striker has already played his first match in his new colors, in the 2-0 defeat against Cologne in the Bundesliga, where he played for 15 minutes. According to Bild, this is the number of minutes that Frankfurt can offer him per match at the moment. Indeed, his physical condition is not at 100%, and the player will have to gradually return to full fitness to become a starter for the German club, which is fully aware of this slight physical issue that Hugo Ekitike has been dealing with, as he has hardly played for about 6 months.
Ekitike not yet fit, Frankfurt don’t panic
Despite Ekitike’s inability to start as a starter, Frankfurt doesn’t feel like they’ve been deceived. The player has recently been training individually to regain fitness as quickly as possible. The club is aware of the qualities of the former Stade de Reims striker and seems willing to give him time to return to his best level. On loan until the end of the season with a purchase option of 30 million euros, the 21-year-old player will first need to make appearances off the bench before he can challenge the hierarchy of attackers. Currently sixth, Frankfurt is still in contention for a European qualification. Hugo Ekitike will likely still be too short of fitness to start against Bochum in the next league match.
