FOOTBALL – Stade Rennais: A Swedish nugget to forget Steven N’Zonzi?
Stade Rennais has just lost another member of its squad in the person of Steven N’Zonzi. SRFC hopes to recruit a young Swedish midfielder this summer to compensate for this departure.
It’s over between Stade Rennais and Steven N’Zonzi
New blow for the Stade Rennais. On Saturday, SRFC made official the departure of Steven N’Zonzi in a statement. The 32-year-old midfielder was on loan to Rennes since January 2020 by AS Roma. At the end of his contract, the French world champion returns to the Italian club with which he has one year left on his contract. This departure comes after that of the captain Damien Da Silva. Free, the central defender joined Olympique Lyonnais. While a sale of Eduardo Camavinga is also expected this summer, the Breton club intends to recruit reinforcements in midfield. In addition to the Mexican Hector Herrera from Atletico Madrid, Rennes is also following Jens Caluste as revealed by L’Équipe. The 21-year-old midfielder is currently playing for Sweden at Euro 2020.
A €5m deal for SRFC?
Jens Caluste is a member of the Norwegian club Midtjylland and is one of the hopes of Swedish soccer. He has just finished a full season with his club. He played 39 games, 35 of them as a starter, with one goal and two assists. Under the spell of the Swedish midfielder, Stade Rennais could recruit him to strengthen after the departure of N’Zonzi. Still linked to Midtjylland until 2023, Caluste is listed at 5 million euros on Transfermarkt. An amount within the reach of SRFC, which hopes a big sale of Eduardo Camavinga this summer to further replenish its coffers.
